🎨 How to color it

Color the spinosaurus spring green, the tall sail panels coral and lemon yellow, the splash drops bright aqua, and the little fish badge silver-blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow sail sections, tooth gaps, and teardrop splashes, then switch to a marker for the broad belly and face. Try making the wavy outer border a cool blue shadow so the warm sail looks like it is popping off a sticker sheet.

At Mist Harbor, Quill set his round fish button on the dock post and sat very still, though his tail wanted to thump a drumbeat. The button was only a smooth shell disk with a carved fish, but Quill polished it every morning until it smelled faintly of salt and minty seaweed. He wanted to hear the harbor’s “please wait” sound, the soft glup-glup the old buoys made before the tide turned. So he waited with a grin full of teeth, letting fog bead on his nose.

Gulls clicked their beaks. Ropes creaked. A crab in a bottle-cap hat marched past and whispered, “Still waiting?” Quill nodded, because the best noises arrived after the silly quiet. Then the fish button gave one tiny tick. Not from magic. From inside.

A baby hermit crab popped out from the button’s carved fish mouth, wearing it like a front door, and blew three bubbles: plip, plip, plorp. All along the dock, buoys answered glup-glup, the tide slid in, and Quill laughed so hard the spray jumped around him. Next time you spot his little fish button, check whether it looks more like a prize—or a very patient crab house.
