Every ride to away games, Bixby sat on the front seat of the team bus and counted the tiny hearts on his ribbons. He wanted to reach one hundred before the bus doors hissed open. “No giggles till one hundred,” he whispered, while his fuzzy pom-poms bobbed bump-bump over the sticky floor.
Until one day, a cheese cracker rolled under his ribbon tail. At last, he took a slow breath, started again, and waited through every bump, sneeze, and cracker crunch. When the doors hissed open, he grinned at heart one hundred—can you find the patient little hearts he counted?
