Every day, Quincy tucked one daisy petal under his tiny wing before racing the garden path. It was his “go-first” badge, soft as a feather and smelling like sunshine, and he tapped it before every new thing. “Step, splash, zoom!” he whispered. Until one day, a windy WHOOF snatched the petal away and dropped it beside the biggest rain puddle Quincy had ever seen.
Because of that, Quincy waddled after it, heart going thump-thump under his fluff. Because of THAT, his foot slipped into the cold water, and the puddle made a loud plip that sounded like a drum. He almost turned back, but the daisy nodded on its bendy stem as if cheering. Finally, Quincy took one brave splash, then another, and rescued his petal from the muddy edge. Next time you spot his tilted smile by the puddle, can you find the daisy that helped him whisper, “Step, splash, zoom”?
