🎨 How to color it

Color the pickup truck cherry red, the “FLOWER POWER” sign sunny yellow, the tulips pink and orange, and the leafy garden deep green. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the truck body and fence, then let your child dab different colors into the many small flowers without worrying about staying perfectly inside the lines. Try making the butterflies blue, purple, and gold so they look like they are fluttering above a warm red truck.

Down the backyard lane, Tilly bounced her little pickup past the fence with a tin cup clink-clink-clinking on the seat. She wanted to tuck one plain blue coat button into the biggest bouquet before the garden parade began. The truck smelled like wet leaves and marigolds, and bees buzzed like tiny engines over the tulips.

At the last bend, Tilly lifted the bouquet and whispered, “For the quiet helper.” A sparrow hopped from the gate, wearing a tiny thread necklace with one empty loop. The button was not for a coat at all. Tilly tied it on, and the sparrow flashed it like a medal before flying over the flowers, sprinkling seed as it went. Next time you spot the busy garden truck, see if you can find the secret bouquet that carried more than flowers.
