Every afternoon, after the last bell rang ding-ding, Lina sat in the theater wings and stitched one square of pink ribbon. She wanted to finish a bow for the spring show all by herself. The ribbon smelled like dust and peppermint from her lunchbox.
Until one day, the needle slipped, and the tiny knot pulled tight like a secret. Because of that, the bow gave a soft blink. Because of THAT, every heart on the rehearsal posters began to shine, and the dark hallway filled with little starry glimmers. “I made that?” Lina whispered.
At showtime, she tied the bow in her hair and stepped into the warm lights, hands folded, proud as a drumbeat. If you spot the biggest bow, you might hear that first stitch go ding-ding.
