🎨 How to color it

Color the fire truck classic engine red, the Station 10 bricks warm tan, the rooftop ladder silver gray, and the garage doors soft charcoal. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny brick lines, wheel hubs, hose coils, and ladder rails, then switch to broader marker strokes on the truck panels. Try a pale blue sky behind the clouds so the red truck and the station sign stand out clearly.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Station 10 Has Two Ladders — Before the morning bell warmed its brass throat, Tobin wiped dew from the ladder truck’s windshield and lined up the helmets by size. Read the full story →

Before the morning bell warmed its brass throat, Tobin wiped dew from the ladder truck’s windshield and lined up the helmets by size. Inspection day meant every buckle, hose, and wheel had to be ready, and Tobin wanted the captain to find nothing out of place. The firehouse smelled like floor wax, rubber boots, and the cinnamon toast someone had left near the radio.

A soft peep came from above the roof. Not the phone, not the alarm, not the sleepy pigeons on the power line. Tobin climbed the side ladder and found, tucked inside the cool brick chimney where nobody ever looked, a nest of chimney swifts shivering under soot-black wings. “Easy now,” Tobin whispered, and slid the spare roof ladder beside the first, making a quiet bridge so the captain could lift the nest to a safe ledge without shaking it.

When inspection began, nobody scolded the extra ladder. The captain touched the warm brick and said Station 10 would keep two roof ladders from then on: one for people who called, and one for small lives that could only peep. Ever since, Station 10 has carried two ladders, and if you spot them, you may hear the morning bell warm its brass throat.
