🎨 How to color it

Color the spinosaurus teal with a coral-pink sail, dusty tan rocks, and deep green desert plants along the trail. Use sharp colored pencils for the scale bumps, claws, and sail grooves, then fill the larger body areas with smooth marker strokes. Try a sunset gradient behind the speed lines so the running spinosaurus feels like it burst out of warm light.

Under thorn ridge, Quillan tapped every pebble with one claw, searching for a whistle-stone before the evening wind came hissing through the cactus spines. The sentries used those stones to warn the valley, and Quillan wanted, just once, to be the one who made the first clear note. His usual sun-warmed ledge waited behind him. Ahead, the trail narrowed, smelling of dust and hot sage.

A pebble skittered by itself. Then another. From a crack in the rock, a wind-crab peeked out, its shell full of tiny holes. “Trade?” it clicked. Quillan had no shells, no fish, nothing shiny. Only his roar. So he roared into the crab’s shell until his throat scratched like sandpaper, and the crab pushed out a gray stone with a slit down its middle.

Quillan ran home with sore breath and shaking knees. When the wind struck the stone, it sang—thin, bright, and braver than noise. Next time you spot him flying down the rocky path, keep the secret: that little whistle began where his big roar ran out.
