🎨 How to color it

Color the panda with soft black patches and creamy white fur, make the umbrella panels sunny yellow and coral pink, and give the bamboo fresh green stalks with darker leaves. Use sharp colored pencils for the umbrella’s tiny dots, curved stripes, bamboo joints, and raindrops so the small shapes stay crisp. Try a pale blue wash around the smiling cloud, then leave a few puddle rings white so the rain looks extra splashy.

Under the plip-plip rain, Ollie held the borrowed umbrella high and made a private rule: not one raindrop would sneak onto its bright cloth. He stepped around puddles, ducked under bamboo leaves, and twirled the handle whenever the wind tried to tickle it. The umbrella smelled faintly of paper and peaches, which made the challenge feel important and also a little ridiculous.

After seven careful steps, Ollie heard a tiny slurp. Below the umbrella’s scalloped edge, dry little sprouts were leaning toward the runoff dripping from each rib. Plip—one drank. Plop—another perked up. “Oh,” Ollie whispered, grinning. “You were borrowing it, too.”

So he kept walking the slowest, silliest path through the garden, tipping the umbrella just enough to share its drips with every thirsty leaf. Nobody clapped except the puddles, which made soft bloop sounds around his feet. Next time you spot those raindrops under the polka-dot umbrella, see if you can find which tiny sprout got the first plip-plip rain.
