🎨 How to color it

Color the Calm Waters rowboat sky blue, the picnic basket honey brown, the lake soft teal, and the tall pine trees deep green. Use chunky crayons or markers for the wide boat boards and lake, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the tiny forks, grapes, reeds, and basket weave. Try making the boat’s name panel bright white so the letters look freshly painted against the blue hull.

Beside the quiet lake, Elowen pressed her paintbrush to a smooth wooden strip and whispered her new game: “Name what helps you feel brave.” She had made the strip herself from a crate slat, sanding it until it felt soft as toast. Her picnic basket clicked with forks and plates, but the little rowboat still looked plain. The water made hush-hush sounds under the dock.

Elowen touched the oars. “You help me cross.” She touched the rope. “You help me stay.” Then the breeze lifted the wet sign and laid it against the boat’s side, neat as a ribbon: CALM WATERS. The lake went so still that every boat nearby wanted a name too, and ever since, boats wear names they can carry proudly. Can you find the handmade name that began with a hush-hush lake?
