In the boot cubby, Pippa patted a gold buckle she made from a shiny scrap. Tap, tap, tap went her little hammer. She wanted it to sit straight on Santa’s wide boot strap.

The boots smelled like snow and cocoa. Pippa smoothed the fluffy tops with both hands. “Stay fancy,” she whispered.

Then a snowflake floated in and landed right on the buckle. It jingled! Another snowflake twirled down and jingled too.
