Under the tickly ferns, Pip pressed leaves into soft mud. Smoosh, pat, peel! He wanted a fern-print hat, made all by himself, with a round mud brim and bumpy little edges. The garden smelled wet and green, and Pip’s claws left funny moons wherever he patted.
He set the hat beside the big daisy to dry. Then the daisy went wiggle-wiggle. Out popped three tiny beetles wearing crumbs of yellow pollen. “We made buttons!” they squeaked. Pip stuck the pollen buttons around his hat and puffed up with pride. If you spot the daisy, can you guess where the giggly button-makers hid before the tickly ferns went smoosh, pat, peel?
