At twilight, when the track smelled like warm rubber and sleepy grass, Lumi parked at the start line and made herself a small challenge. She would not zoom until she counted seven star-glimmers on her hood. One glimmer winked. Then two. The clouds drifted slowly, hush-hush, over the bend.
Other engines purred past, but Lumi stayed still. “I can wait,” she whispered. A third glimmer landed, then four, five, six. At last, the seventh shone right on her nose, and Lumi rolled forward soft as moonlight.
