🎨 How to color it

Color the turtle’s shell olive green with honey-gold scutes, the jellyfish lavender, the bubbles pale aqua, and the seafloor sand warm beige. Use sharp colored pencils for the turtle’s many shell plates and flipper spots, then switch to smoother side-strokes for the open water around the bubbles. Try making every bubble cluster a little brighter as it rises, like the turtle’s smile is sending light upward.

Under the hush-hush blue of the sandy flats, Coral pressed one flipper into the soft ripple marks and blew three bubbles from her nose. She had just invented Bubble-Race, a game with one secret rule: whichever bubble reached the sun-stripe first got a cheer so loud even the clams could feel it. Pop-pop-pop, the bubbles wobbled upward. Coral’s joy swelled bigger than her shell, but the crabs were busy polishing pebbles, and the sleepy scallops would not open for anything less than thunder.

Then a lavender jellyfish drifted by, all tickly tentacles and moon-soft edges. “Your bubbles are racing alone,” it whispered. Coral blinked. Of course! She swept her wide flippers through the water, stirring tiny circles around the bubbles. The jellyfish bobbed after them, the seaweed leaned in, and every bubble began to spin, bump, and trade places as if laughing.

When the first one burst in a silver wink, Coral shouted, “Again!” So many bubbles poured up that the sandy flats glittered like a secret party. Ever since, sea turtles have blown bubbles when happiness gets too big to keep, and if you catch this moment, count the racers before they pop-pop-pop away.
