🎨 How to color it

Color the sneakers bright white with teal panels, the basketball classic orange, the laces lemon yellow, and the court lines deep navy. Use sharp colored pencils for the crisscrossed shoelaces and stitched shoe panels, then switch to smoother marker strokes for the wide arcs of the court. Try making one lace tip a tiny rainbow stripe, as if it has been carrying a secret bit of celebration.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the bright arena lights, Juno tucked one lemon-yellow shoelace into her sneaker and left the other end flopping like a sleepy noodle. She had brought it from her old backyard hoop, where her cousin had tied it to the rim after every made-up tournament. The lace smelled faintly of dust, rubber, and summer rain. Before warm-ups, Juno stepped onto the center circle and tapped the basketball twice: thump, thump. “For maximum bounce mischief,” she whispered.

The ball rolled to her right, bumped her shoe, and stopped as if listening. Juno wiggled the floppy lace. Across the court, Anaya pointed at it and snorted. Then Milo tugged a purple string from his pocket. Rae produced a green one. Even Coach Bell, who owned three whistles and zero nonsense, had tied a red ribbon around his clipboard.

Juno stared. The old backyard lace had become an invitation without saying a word. Soon everyone was bouncing in place, their tiny ribbons and laces flicking like flags, joy too big to stay in one sneaker. Next time you spot that loose lace by the center circle, see if you can hear the thump, thump of maximum bounce mischief.
