🎨 How to color it

Give the sun a golden yellow center with orange flames, make the large striped planet rusty red and cream, and color the ringed planets icy blue and lavender. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin orbit lines, planet bands, and tiny star points, then switch to markers for the wider planet circles. Try a deep navy-to-purple space background so the bright comets and spiral galaxies look like they are cutting through the dark.

The story behind this coloring page

The First Brave Orbit — Before the paths were paths, everything drifted in a warm, whispery dark. Read the full story →

Before the paths were paths, everything drifted in a warm, whispery dark. Tavi, a pebble-sized moonlet with dust in his dents, wanted one steady place to travel, but the young planets kept bumping and muttering, and the comets hissed past like sizzling sparks. Nobody went near the sun’s bright edge. Too hot. Too loud. Too full of crackling gold.

Here is the secret: Tavi heard a tiny tap-tap under all that roar. He tucked his fear tight, rolled closer, and found a little silver hum hidden behind one curling flame, where nobody had thought to look. “I can carry that,” Tavi whispered. The hum trembled against him like a bee in a jar. When he nudged it outward, it stretched into a glowing curve, and the nearest planet slid onto it with a soft whoom.

Tavi made another curve, then another, hands shaking even though moonlets do not have hands. Planets followed, comets darted between, and the sun stopped shouting because everything finally had room. Ever since, planets travel on those secret brave lines, and if you trace one with your finger, you might feel Tavi’s first tap-tap in the warm, whispery dark.
