Under the glass garden roof, Sella tucked a dry moonpetal beneath one curled horn and sniffed the sleeping roses. She wanted one drop of silver scent before the petal lost the smell of her first home. The crescent pool lay past the tall vine gate, where night air hummed against the panes and every leaf looked taller than it had in daylight.
Sella stepped out. Dew chilled her toes. A thorn snagged the ribbon around the petal, and she had to leave the ribbon behind, fluttering softly on the briar. “Just a little farther,” she whispered.
