🎨 How to color it

Color the baby turtles olive green with tan shell plates, make the curling wave bright turquoise with white foam, and fill the rising sun with golden yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big sun and waves, then switch to a sharper crayon point for the small shell shapes and sandy dots. Try making each turtle’s shell plates a little different, like five tiny sunrise mosaics heading for the water.

Before the beach grew warm, Uma pushed through the soft sand, pat-pat, pat-pat, trying to reach the hushy water. The waves boomed like drums, and she tucked her chin low. Then something thin and golden slid beside her foot. It was a sunray, lost and shivering on the sand, smelling faintly of warm shells.

“I’m too bright to hide,” whispered the ray. Uma wanted to run, but the water was still far away. She lifted one flipper and let the ray rest on her plain little shell. Warm lines spread into neat patches, gentle as a blanket. The ray pointed the way, and Uma crawled on. Ever since, baby sea turtles carry sun pieces on their shells, so even their first brave trip remembers that soft pat-pat toward the sea.
