🎨 How to color it

Color the baby velociraptor bright lime green, the spotted egg creamy white with peach patches, and the curling leaves jungle green. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big shell pieces, and let your child color right over the crack lines if they want. Try making the tail stripes alternate teal and yellow so this little hatchling looks extra mischievous.

The story behind this coloring page

Pip Builds a Boom-Nest — Every day in the fern patch, Pip tapped his egg with one claw. Tik, tik, tik! Read the full story →

Every day in the fern patch, Pip tapped his egg with one claw. Tik, tik, tik! He wanted a nest that made the loudest crackle in the leaves, but the shell only wobbled and smelled like warm mud.

Until one day, a shiny beetle rolled in, drumming on a hollow seed. “Too quiet!” it squeaked. Because of that, Pip pushed hard and popped the egg wide open. Because of THAT, shell bits flew plink-plonk into the pebbles, and Pip stacked them with his own tiny claws. At last, he made a jagged boom-nest that rattled when he laughed. Next time you spot those broken pieces, can you hear Pip’s tik, tik, tik?
