🎨 How to color it

Layer cool silver-gray through the wolf’s flowing fur, add storm-blue to the iris, and keep the tiny eye highlight bright white. Use sharp pencils and follow the direction of each engraved strand, building color lightly between the black lines rather than pressing over them. For a dramatic twist, shade the fur darkest around the heavy upper eyelid so the blue eye seems to catch moonlight.

Each night, Rowan climbed the granite pass and set himself the same small challenge: find one sharp place in the dark and soften it before dawn. He nudged loose stones from the trail, packed snow into paw-deep holes, and listened to the wind comb the grass with a dry, silver hiss. No one thanked him; no one knew. That was part of the game.

Then fog rolled up from the ravine and swallowed the moon he had been saving for his long, quiet watch. Because of that, a line of late travelers halted below, their lanterns dim as buried embers. Because of that, Rowan carried his own candle to the narrowest ledge and held still, though wax warmed his paw and the fog beaded cold along his lashes. One by one, the travelers crossed toward the small amber point that did not blink.

When the last footstep faded, his candle was nearly gone. Rowan looked into the pale dark where his moon-watch should have been and found, in the wet stone, a single round gleam looking back. Before dawn, the granite pass held one less sharp place in the dark.
