🎨 How to color it

Color the jellyfish bell in soft peach and lavender, the long tentacles in pale coral, the tiny fish in golden yellow, and the reef plants in sea green. Use sharp colored pencils for the many ribbon-like arms, following each strand from the bell downward so the lines stay clear. Try a faint blue wash around the bubbles and leave a few tentacle tips nearly white so the jellyfish looks like it is glowing in deep water.

Every day, Nori drifted under the coral arches, counting bubbles for the current race: one, two, three—whoosh! She wanted to ring the starting shell just once, but the big racers always swept past, their fins flashing silver, and her soft arms tucked tight from nerves.

Until one day, the starting shell stayed silent. The storm-drum that woke it had vanished. Because of that, the racers spun in circles, arguing over which current was first. Because of that, the tide began pulling everyone toward the prickly black urchin field. Nori heard a tiny thump-thump under the roar of water and followed it into a curtain of jellyfish ribbons where no fish dared poke a nose.

Inside, tucked beneath a folded, frilly arm, was the missing drum, hidden by a crab who thought it was a hat. “I can get it,” Nori whispered, and slipped through the stinging strands without brushing a single one. She tapped the drum—boom!—and the shell sang. Next time bubbles rise past the coral arches, count them with Nori: one, two, three—whoosh!
