🎨 How to color it

Color the jellyfish bell coral pink with lavender spots, the long tentacles pale peach and violet, the seaweed emerald and teal, and the bubbles light aqua. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin, twisting tentacles and seaweed blades, following each line from top to bottom so the strands stay clear. Try making the jellyfish glow by adding a soft yellow halo around the bell and leaving tiny white highlights inside the bubbles.

Every evening, when the tide bells clicked like little teeth, Irie swam through Kelp Canyon to polish the glow pearl that lit the path home. The pearl smelled faintly of rain on stone, though it lived under the sea. Irie wanted to keep it bright enough for the sleepy shrimp caravans, but one blue-dark evening, a great jellyfish drifted from a crack in the canyon wall, its bell dim and its long threads dragging through the sand.

Because of that, Irie followed instead of turning back. The water grew colder, and the kelp whispered shh-shh against her sleeves. Because of that, she found a nursery of baby jellies tucked where no lantern light reached, pulsing like tiny cloudy hearts. “They can have mine,” Irie said, though no shrimp, crab, or tide bell was there to praise her.

She set the glow pearl beneath them, and the whole canyon filled with soft gold. The large jellyfish rose, no longer shadowed, and carried the light gently between its ribbons. Next time bubbles climb past tall kelp, see if one shines like rain on stone.
