Under the low attic cloth, Junie patted her tiny blue nap ribbon. It smelled like soap and warm dust, the smell of her spot. Then the feather wand gave a swish-swish, and the ribbon was gone.
Junie hopped off the round rug and chased the wand past paper stars, dry leaves, and sleepy butterflies painted on the rafters. A loose floorboard squeaked, “Eek!” She snagged one claw and left a puff of fur behind, but kept going. “Wait for me!” she mewed.
The wand bounced beside an old cushion tucked behind a trunk. There lay her ribbon, tied around a note: FOR JUNIE’S NEW NEST. She curled in, softer than before. Next time you see the swirly rug, can you find where the swish-swish began?
