🎨 How to color it

Layer the sea turtle’s shell in olive green and umber, shade the head and flippers with muted sage, and set the coral branches in soft peach with blue-green sea grass below. Use sharp pencils for the small scale patches around the eye and flippers, then switch to broader strokes for the large shell plates. For a mischievous touch, make the bubbles pale lavender and let one coral tip glow gold, as if it has just been secretly polished.

At the back of the coral grotto, where the water tasted faintly of salt and limestone, Veda set herself a private test: brighten the drabbest corner before any parrotfish could gossip about it. She nudged loose sand from the fan coral, rubbed algae off three sleepy branches with the edge of her flipper, and hid a shiny snail shell where morning light would strike it just so.

The grotto answered in tiny sounds: tick, fizz, hush. Veda added one last ridiculous flourish, arranging pebbles into a smile only a crab would appreciate. Then the bubbles rose around her in perfect little circles, wobbling like they were trying not to laugh.

Only after she backed away did she notice her own reflection inside each bubble—multiplying her secret kindness into a whole audience of Vedas. No one had been watching, unless water counted. She slipped out grinning, leaving the drabbest corner brighter with salt, limestone, and one hidden shine.
