🎨 How to color it

Color the butterfly’s wings sunny yellow with coral and sky-blue spots, make the big flower raspberry pink, and use leafy green for the buds and leaves. The thick outlines and roomy wing sections are great for chunky crayons; let young colorers fill the big shapes first and not worry about tiny white gaps. Try making the matching wing spots the same colors on both sides, like a butterfly wearing a secret rainbow code.

The story behind this coloring page

Pippa’s Blooming Surprise — Every day, Pippa zipped over the garden and tapped each sleepy bud. Tap-tap, flap-flap! Read the full story →

Every day, Pippa zipped over the garden and tapped each sleepy bud. Tap-tap, flap-flap! The leaves smelled wet and green, and the big flower stayed shut like a fist. “Wake up, sleepyhead!” Pippa called.

Until one day, the big flower sneezed. Achoo! Because of that, its petals bounced open and a shower of tiny golden seeds popped out from the center. Because of that, Pippa’s wings tingled with a buzzing, fizzy joy, and she zoomed to the ants, bees, and beetles. “Come see!” she cried.

At last, everyone gathered as the seeds twinkled down into the soil like little suns. Look at the big flower again—you can almost hear Pippa’s tap-tap, flap-flap.
