🎨 How to color it

Try spring green for the grasshopper, soft yellow-green for the big curved leaf, lavender for the little flowers, and tan for the cattails. Use chunky crayons for the grasshopper’s wide body parts first, and let your child scribble freely through the tall grass and leaf lines. Add a secret rainbow stripe on each long antenna to make the singing notes feel extra merry.

Psst—Bix had a secret. He wanted one round button-seed for the little shaker he was making with his own feet.

Rustle, rustle! He hopped out of his soft grass bed, past the tall cattails. A sticky mud spot grabbed one toe. “Oh no!” peeped Bix. Plip! He pulled free, found the seed, and tied it in a dry leaf cup.

Then shake-a, shake-a, chirp! Bix stood tall on the bendy leaf bridge, proud as sunshine. Next time you see his grin, can you hear that button-seed song?
