🎨 How to color it

Color the fish’s wide stripes sunny yellow and tangerine, the seaweed kelp green, the bubbles pale blue, and the pebbles sandy tan. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big body bands, then switch to a sharper crayon point for the thin fin lines and small leaves. Try making every other bubble a little darker blue so they look like they are floating up from behind the fish.

Down in Bubble Meadow, where the sand went hush-hush under every fin, Pip rubbed his plain side against a smooth pebble. He wanted one bright stripe before the moonfish parade, but the reef painters only decorated shells. “No stripes for fish,” whispered the crabs, clicking like tiny spoons.

Pip nosed between two tall weeds and found a surprise where nobody ever peeked: under the flat sand, a sleeping ribbon of warm gold bubbles. Pop-pop-pop! They burst against his side in a neat band, then another, as cozy as sunlight through water. “Keep swimming,” bubbled the ribbon.

So Pip did, right through the hidden fizz, and the stripes stayed. Ever since, little reef fish get their bands by drifting through secret bubble ribbons under the sand. If you spot a smiling fish among the weeds, you may know exactly where he belongs: in the pop-pop hush of Bubble Meadow.
