🎨 How to color it

Color the smiling sun star golden yellow, the dotted orbit paths pale lavender, the ringed planet soft teal with a coral ring, and the swirly planets ocean blue and violet. Use sharp colored pencils for the planet swirls and tiny stars, then switch to smooth marker fills for the sun’s round face and big pointed rays. Try making each dotted orbit fade from lavender to deep blue as it travels around the sun star.

The story behind this coloring page

Vesper’s Orbit Game — By moon-dust lamplight, Vesper pinched silver crumbs into tiny dots and placed them in circles on his workshop floor. Read the full story →

By moon-dust lamplight, Vesper pinched silver crumbs into tiny dots and placed them in circles on his workshop floor. He wanted his new game, Roundabout, to make the pebble-planets roll without bumping, but every time he flicked one, clack! it knocked the ringed marble sideways and sent the blue swirly one under the shelf. Something in the dark kept whispering between the dots.

Vesper warmed his hands until they glowed honey-bright, then pressed each dot down with his own ray tips. The dots hummed like bees in a jar. “Stay where I made you,” he told them, and flicked the first pebble again. This time it followed the dotted trail, and the others followed too, circling him in neat, secret lanes.

The whisper became a purr, soft as velvet night. Ever since, planets have trusted dotted paths around bright stars, because Vesper’s handmade game taught the sky how to keep from clacking apart. If you spot the ringed planet, can you trace the first Roundabout trail back to its moon-dust lamplight?
