🎨 How to color it

Give the teacher’s cardigan a sunny yellow, her skirt a soft navy, the apple on the board a bright red, and the globe’s oceans a clear blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the small shelf books, clock numbers, and bulletin board notes, then switch to broader strokes for the board and wooden floor. Try making the four plain shapes into a secret pattern by coloring the triangle, square, rectangle, and circle in repeating classroom colors.

The story behind this coloring page

The Shape Nobody Checked — The brass bookmark was supposed to mark the read-aloud chapter, but by lunch it had vanished from Room 12. Read the full story →

The brass bookmark was supposed to mark the read-aloud chapter, but by lunch it had vanished from Room 12. Vera checked under the chair legs, between the stacked books, even beside the dusty eraser that smelled like chalky rain. Nothing. The class clock ticked in its nosy little voice while everyone else whispered guesses. Vera wanted that bookmark back before story time, so she slipped from her safe desk and followed the quietest clue: one tiny glint near the shape board.

Getting there cost her the last bite of her cinnamon cracker, because she had to trade it to Theo for his spot by the globe. Then she waited. The teacher kept talking about triangles and rectangles, and Vera’s knees itched with hurry, but she watched the round paper circle on the board tremble whenever the window sighed.

At last, the circle lifted at one corner. Behind it sat a folded note, and inside the note was not the bookmark, but directions: “Check where the apple has a leaf.” Vera reached behind the paper apple and found the brass strip warm from the sun. Next time you see that neat circle near the smiling teacher, keep the secret: patience can hear a glint.
