🎨 How to color it

Color the wasp golden yellow with chocolate-brown stripes, the lemonade pale lemon, the pear light green, and the daisies sunny white with orange centers. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big wing panels and blanket squares, then let a grown-up help with the tiny ants and crumbs if needed. Try alternating red and white squares on the picnic blanket so the hovering wasp looks extra bright above it.

Under the fence rail, where warm wood smelled dusty, Junby tucked a curled straw wrapper beneath one leg. She wanted one lemon sip from the tall cup on the picnic blanket. Psst—she called the wrapper her crown, but really it was from her very first picnic.

Junby buzzed out over grass that tickled her feet. The blanket squares were hot, hot, hot. Two tiny ants stood by a crumb canyon, waving. Junby wanted the straw, not a rescue. Still, she dropped her precious wrapper across the gap. “Quick, before the wind notices!” she whispered.

The ants crossed, carrying crumbs no one had counted. Junby took only one sweet lemon sip and flew home without her crown. But a pear seed shone in her paws like a new secret. Next time you spot that bent straw, you’ll know who left it under the warm, dusty rail.
