In the moon tower, Orin tapped his shelf for the tiny silver bell that called bedtime clouds. Tap, tap—nothing but dust and the soft smell of old paper. He wrapped his star robe tight and stepped down the spiral stairs to search the chilly hall.
Past the window, wind went whooo through the stones. Orin traded his last honey drop to a sleepy moth for one clue: “Listen under the quietest thing.” He checked a cushion, a folded map, even his hat brim. Then his robe pocket hummed. Inside was not the bell, but a baby moonseed, glowing like warm milk. Orin smiled and lifted his wand. “Come along, little light.” Back in his tower, the moonseed rang without a bell, and if you peek at the starry swirls, you may hear that first tap, tap.
