Every evening, Vela carried her smooth stone to the fern hollow. She rubbed it with her paw—shush, shush—and watched its tiny shine.
Until one day, the hollow smelled dry and dusty. A little beetle tapped the dirt. “No sip,” it clicked.
Because of that, Vela set her stone under the biggest leaf. Because of THAT, dew slid down—plink!—onto the stone, then into the beetle’s cup-shaped shell.
