Under the cool arch, Tavi rolled his little prayer bead between two dusty fingers. It clicked like a secret. When the bead bounced from his hand and skipped toward the hot furnace door, he gulped, left the shady wall, and hurried after it. The stones burned through his sandals. Smoke scratched his nose. Then the guards pushed three brave men past him, right into the roar.
Here is the part whispered between friends: Tavi saw someone else step through the fire. Not a guard. Not a king. A bright stranger walked with the three men, and the flames bent away like reeds in wind. “You belong with the ones who pray,” the stranger said softly. Tavi’s bead rolled back, warm but whole. He carried it to the cool arch, but it no longer clicked lonely in his palm. Next time you see the curls of fire, can you spot the secret place where Tavi knew he belonged?
