🎨 How to color it

Layer the turtle’s shell in sea-glass teal and deep aqua, shade the patterned flippers with olive green, and make the bubbles pale blue beside emerald seaweed. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny spirals, dots, and scalloped bands, filling one shell plate at a time so the thick black borders stay crisp. Try alternating warm coral accents inside the wave panels with cool blue-green seaweed panels, as if the turtle carries a small reef on its back.

Every evening, Sera drifted through the offshore maze and matched one sound to one mark on her shell: hiss for a wave curl, tick for a bubble, hush for the long grass brushing stone. She had invented the game to keep her course while the water turned silver and the reef paths braided themselves into riddles. Until one day, the tide answered before she chose—three soft ticks rose from below, and three round bubbles trembled along the groove nearest her heart.

Because of that, Sera followed the answer instead of the path, past combs of weed and over a ridge smelling faintly of salt and rain. Because of that, the maze opened into a quiet basin where every current touched her shell in the right order: hiss, tick, hush, tick. Finally, she stopped trying to win her game. The game had been naming home, and Sera rested in the silver water, exactly inside the sound she had been listening for every evening.
