Under the warm striped tent, Juno tapped her pencil on the counter and made her little challenge: ask three questions before the supper bell rang. Every day she sorted apples by shine, stem, and wobble. “What do you know?” she whispered to the first candy apple, smelling sugar and cinnamon in the cool air.
Until one day, the caramel curl on top made the shape of a river. Because of that, Juno asked the sprinkle apple where the river went, and the sprinkles tick-tick-ticked like pebble rain. Because of that, she asked the nutty apple what waited at the end, and one sugar chip flashed like a tiny window.
