🎨 How to color it

Give the octopus a dusky purple body, the striped reef fish sunny yellow and teal bands, the tube sponges coral pink, and the starfish a warm orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny suction cups and fish stripes, then fill the octopus’s larger head and arms with smoother, slower strokes. Try making the octopus darker at each curled arm tip, as if it has just slipped out of a secret shadow in the reef.

The story behind this coloring page

Tavi and the Whisper Coin — Under the tall tube sponges, Tavi kept a flat black coin tucked beneath one arm. Read the full story →

Under the tall tube sponges, Tavi kept a flat black coin tucked beneath one arm. It was only a pebble to everyone else, but when the tide turned, it hummed against Tavi’s skin like a tiny bee in a jar. Tavi wanted to know why. So, past the striped fish and the tickly coral fans, Tavi slipped from the safe sponge maze into colder blue water.

The coin pulled, tug-tug, toward a crack where silver sand whispered. A crab snapped, “Pay a secret!” Tavi gave up the best one: the coin had been left by a stranger with eight crooked armprints. The crab let Tavi pass. Inside the crack, moonlight touched the coin and pale lines bloomed across it—a map of the reef’s hidden doorways.

Tavi hurried home with sand in every suction cup, changed not by treasure, but by questions. Next time you spot the curled arms over the coral, can you guess which secret path the whisper coin showed first?
