🎨 How to color it

Color the lamb’s wool creamy white with pale peach ears, the wooden fence honey brown, and the clover patch bright spring green with pink and white flowers. Use sharp colored pencils for the little wool spirals and flower petals, then switch to broader strokes for the hills and sky. Try making every curl on the lamb slightly different—some butter yellow, some soft gray—so her fleece looks like a secret map of swirls.

The story behind this coloring page

Behind the clover fence, where the grass smelled peppery after rain, Vesper invented a game she called Hop, Count, Hush. She wanted the whole pasture to answer her jumps: one hop for a daisy, two for a cloud, three for the splintery fence rail. The trouble was the wind. It kept sneaking under her wool with a ffffft, stealing her counts and tossing them toward the hills.

So Vesper made a rule, and you may tell only careful friends: every time the wind grabbed a number, she tucked it into her fleece with her chin. “Stay there,” she whispered. Hop—one curl. Hop—two curls. Hop—three curls, tight as snail shells. The fence posts tapped, the clover nodded, and even the clouds seemed to hold still.

By sundown, Vesper’s wool was full of curled-up counts, and no gust could shake them loose. The other sheep pressed close, smelling warm lanolin and crushed clover, and asked for the game. Ever since then, lambs have carried curls in their wool, because a pasture feels most like home when it can keep your rhythm. If you spot Vesper mid-hop, see whether you can count the secret curls before the wind does.
