🎨 How to color it

Color the fox’s face russet orange, the inner ears peach, the oak leaves olive green, and the berries cranberry red. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow leaf veins and berry circles, working from the outer wreath toward the fox’s eyes. Try a soft golden glow around the muzzle so the calm face feels tucked inside autumn light.

Under the high oak, Saffron held her smallest acorn to one ear. Tick, tick, tick, it whispered, like rain inside a seed. She wanted to know where the wind went after it shook the leaves, so she followed the sound around the trunk, past red berries and ferny sprigs smelling of damp bark.

The acorn ticked louder beneath a branch shaped like a pointing paw. Saffron sat very still. Then the oak leaves above her turned silver on their undersides, and every leaf pointed a different way. The acorn was not a map to the wind. It was the oak asking its own questions back.

“Where do you think sky sleeps?” Saffron whispered. The leaves shivered hush-hush, and she smiled. Next time you see the little acorn near her paws, listen for its tick, tick, tick.
