Before the vine conservatory opened, Renzo raced between the leaf arches with a brass sunbell in his teeth. He wanted the first ring to wake every glass panel at once. Warm dust smelled like lemons, and his paws clicked tik-tik-tik over the stone path while the morning sun waited behind the round window.
The vines brightened. The tree shadows stretched. Renzo lifted his muzzle to ring the bell—then a tiny voice inside the window sang the exact same note. A glassbird, clear as rainwater, fluttered out of the sun circle and shook sparks from its wings. “Again!” it chirped.
Renzo rang, the glassbird sang, and the whole conservatory answered: green leaves flashed, amber stems glowed, and blue shadows leaped like minnows. Joy bounced so hard in Renzo’s chest that he had to share it, so he dashed to every arch, bell ringing, bird singing above him. Next time you notice the sun behind Renzo’s ears, can you hear the brass note that opened the parade?
