Under the blueberry-dark sky, Pip padded into Sparkle Meadow with a tickly joke in his mouth. He wanted to say it out loud, just once, to someone besides his own paws. The grass smelled sweet and cold. Pip sat up straight, flicked his fluffy tail, and whispered, “Why did the acorn wear a hat?”
A tiny star above him went ping. Then a pink heart bobbed closer and made a soft pop-pop sound. Pip blinked. The stars and hearts were not decorations in the sky at all—they were listening.
Pip gulped, then squeaked, “Because it felt a little nutty!” The meadow burst into twinkles. The hearts wobbled like jelly, and Pip laughed too, brave enough for a second joke. If you peek at his shiny eyes, you might catch the next giggle starting.
