🎨 How to color it

Color the whale a gentle ocean blue, the heart-shaped spout aqua, the curling waves teal, and the little scallop shell sandy peach. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin wave curls and tail lines, then switch to broader strokes for the whale’s smooth body. Try making the heart splash fade from pale blue at the bottom to bright turquoise at the top, like joy shooting into the sky.

The story behind this coloring page

Pippa’s Shell of Cheers — Every morning before the reef bells rang, Pippa tucked her tiny scallop shell under one flipper and practiced a one-whale parade. Read the full story →

Every morning before the reef bells rang, Pippa tucked her tiny scallop shell under one flipper and practiced a one-whale parade. Tap-tap, swish-swish, she spun through the carnival shoals, where lanternfish tested ribbons and crabs polished drum shells. The scallop looked plain, but inside it held the first cheer Pippa’s little brother had ever squeaked for her: “Go, Pippa, go!” She wanted to save that cheer for the big Tide-Turn Parade.

Until one day, a racing current snapped the parade rope with a salty twang. Because of that, the lanternfish scattered like spilled sparks, and because of that, the crab drums rolled into the whirling wave track. Pippa clutched her shell so hard its ridges pressed moons into her flipper. Then she heard the small cheer inside it, bright as bubbles.

Finally, Pippa blew the shell’s echo through her spout. “Go, everyone, go!” The sound burst upward, and every fish, crab, and gull caught the rhythm. The shoals thundered into the biggest shared cheer the sea had ever heard. If you spot the tiny shell below the waves, keep the secret: it still remembers tap-tap, swish-swish.
