🎨 How to color it

Color the hedgehog’s soft belly honey beige, his spiky coat chestnut brown, the apple rosy red, and the butterfly pale lavender. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big belly and tree trunks, then switch to a sharper crayon point for the tiny berries, leaf veins, and mushroom stems. Try making the fallen leaves different autumn colors so the red apple looks like the hedgehog’s special forest prize.

Under the tall trunks, Bramble pressed a red apple onto mud-soft paper with both little paws. Plop, pat, lift—there was a round mark, shiny with juice and smelling sweet. He wanted to make gift tags for the acorn baskets drying beside the mushrooms. A butterfly drifted close, quiet as a blink, while Bramble added leaf prints around each apple circle.

When the last tag dried, a curled brown leaf stuck to Bramble’s paw. He peeled it off and found tiny silver lines on the underside, like a secret map. “I made that?” he whispered. The butterfly landed beside it, wings matching the leaf’s hidden veins. Bramble tucked one apple tag and one silver-veined leaf together for every basket. Next time you see the apple in his paws, can you imagine the small proud pat that made the forest’s secret shine?
