🎨 How to color it

Color the turkey’s feathers pumpkin orange and cranberry red, the gratitude jar pale blue, and the falling leaves golden yellow, russet, and oak brown. Use chunky crayons for the big turkey body and jar, then help trace the leaf veins and tiny stars with a sharper colored pencil if your child wants. Make the heart in the turkey’s wing a bold rosy pink so it looks like the next brave note going into the jar.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the crackle-crack of maple leaves, Zadie tucked a paper heart beneath one wing and hopped toward the big Gratitude Jar. Other hearts waited inside, bright as berries in glass. “I’ll put mine in,” she peeped, though the jar looked tall as a stump and the wind made the leaves whisk and whoosh.

She climbed a leafy mound, step, slip, step, while acorns clicked nearby. At the top, her toes found something smooth under the pile. Not a rock—a tiny wooden stool! Someone had hidden it there, just her size. Zadie popped onto it, stretched high, and dropped in her heart with a plink.

From behind an oak leaf, a chipmunk whispered, “First hearts need first steps.” If you peek at the leaves below Zadie, you can almost hear that crackle-crack again.
