Every morning, Benny practiced his Thanksgiving greeting on the farmyard path: wing up, hat steady, “Gobble-do!” The hat smelled like straw and sat much too tall. Benny wanted to wave to the feast wagon without wobbling.
Until one day, a tiny acorn beetle popped out of the shiny buckle and squeaked, “Room for one?” Because of that, Benny sneezed—pffft!—and his tail fanned wide. Because of THAT, the pumpkin rolled, the acorns jumped, and the wagon horse laughed so hard its bells jingled. Benny’s knees tickled, but he lifted one wing anyway. “Gobble-do!” he said, with the beetle riding proudly in the buckle. Next time you spot his tall hat, can you guess where the giggle is hiding?
