Every night in the gift room, Bram practiced his little challenge: hang one silver bell on the lowest branch without making it jingle. The room smelled like pine needles and peppermint paper. He held his breath, touched the hook, and whispered, “Quiet, bell.”
Until one night, Santa reached for the top star and the whole tree gave a soft shiver. Because of that, Bram’s bell went ting-ting. Because of THAT, a round ornament wobbled, a candy cane swung, and Bram stepped forward before his knees could change their minds.
He put one hand on the branch and held it still. Santa smiled under his fluffy mustache. “Steady hands,” he said. The star settled into place, warm as sunrise. Next time you see Santa’s hand near the shining star, can you find the little bell that rang first?
