Under the wiggly sandbar, Bixby twisted a strip of sea-grass around a hollow reed. He wanted the band crabs to see his brand-new bubble baton, made with his own fins. Plip, plip, plip went the bubbles as he tapped it on a shell. “Ta-da!” he sang, puffing his cheeks so hard his eyes crossed.
The crabs clicked along, and Bixby waved the baton in loops. Every loop made a round bubble bob up like a shiny drum. Then a tiny hermit crab peeked from a spiral shell and giggled. The “baton” was really his lost soup straw from breakfast!
Bixby blinked, then bowed so low his curly tail made a swirl in the sand. “Then I invented lunch music,” he said. The crabs clacked louder, the hermit crab tooted along, and Bixby puffed one more proud plip from his handmade bubble baton.
