Every day, Pip counted bubbles beside the flat gray rock while the minnows zipped loops through the cave pool. He wanted to ride the fast current with them, but the stream only opened when the pool went glug-glug in the right rhythm.
One day, the bubbles stopped. The water felt still as jelly. Pip stayed by the rock while everyone else darted off to search the reeds. Plink! A tiny bubble popped from under the rock. Because Pip waited, he heard a second plink, then pushed with all four feet. The rock tipped up, whoosh! A hidden spring burst out, spinning the minnows back in a silver swirl.
“Race time!” Pip laughed, sailing straight through the fizzy current. Next time you spot that rock, can you find where the first patient plink was hiding?
