🎨 How to color it

Try sunny yellow for the duckling, orange for the beak and webbed feet, blue for the pond rings, and brown with green for the cattail. Use chunky crayons to fill the big duck body first, and let little hands scribble right over the soft water lines if they want. Add one tiny pink cheek beside the open smile to make this pond friend look extra pleased.

In cattail cove, Della paddled soft-swish, soft-swish, with a dry reed ring on her beak. It was her little bell, though it made no sound.

She dipped it in the cool pond. Drip, drip. The ring floated away and made round circles in the water.

Then a tiny frog popped up under the cattail. “For me?” he peeped. He tapped the ring: ting!

Della smiled wide. Her quiet bell had been a frog’s moon drum all along. Next time you see the pond rings by Della’s feet, can you hear them go soft-swish, ting?
