Under the curly branches of Moonfest Grove, Zadie patted sea-clay around a pumpkin shell. Plop, pat, swish! She had given herself a challenge: make a whole festival stage using only what her arms could carry. Leaves tickled her suckers, and the moon smelled cool, like rain on stone.
She twined vines, stacked soft moss, and tucked star-shells along the path. “One more curl!” Zadie called, lifting her hat so it would not bump the branches. Then three bats zipped through the vines—whoosh-whoosh-whee! The curled stems began to hum like tiny fiddles.
Zadie clapped all eight arms. Her handmade stage had made its own music. Next time you see the smiling pumpkin, can you spot the curling vines that sang for Zadie under the curly branches?
