Under the mosaic current, Soren invented a game: follow the roundest moon-bubble without touching it, and if it reached the coral gate unbroken, he could name tomorrow’s tide. The reef smelled of salt and cold stone, and every glassy pane of water clicked softly as he slid from his usual arch of seaweed. The bubble drifted higher than the others, silver at the rim. To keep it in sight, Soren had to leave the warm current and pass through a narrow run of brittle coral, where one small scale snagged and flashed away like a coin.
He almost turned back. Then the lost scale struck a hidden hollow in the reef, and the hollow answered—not with an echo, but with dozens of tiny notes, bright as spoons tapping crystal. More bubbles lifted from cracks he had never noticed, each carrying a different chime. Soren laughed so wide the moon-bubble trembled, and the sound called lanternfish, crabs, and shy eels from the dark seams. He guided them home through the chiming water, not naming tomorrow’s tide after all. He named the game Share the Ring, and under the mosaic current, no bubble rose alone.
