Under the birches, the snow made a soft hush-hush sound under Cassian’s paws. He had promised himself he would follow the narrow print trail past the last spruce, just far enough to see where it curved. Cold air nipped his nose, and every branch overhead held still as a held breath. “Just to the bend,” he whispered.
The prints went on, neat and small beside his own wide steps. Cassian lifted each paw carefully, placing it where the moonlit snow had already been touched. A flake landed on his ear and melted with a tickle. At the bend, he heard a tiny chime—not wind, not bird, but plink-plink-plink beneath the crust.
He brushed the snow with one paw. Hidden under the trail was a little wooden music box, its lid carved with paw pads, playing whenever snow pressed the secret key. Cassian stood very still, brave in the smallest way, and let the path sing him forward. If you follow the prints with your eyes, can you find the bend where the hush-hush turns to music?
